AREVA NC Inc. offers used-nuclear-fuel and waste-management services, including treatment, packaging, and transportation, as well as nuclear-fuel-cycle engineering services, facility decontamination and decommissioning and environmental remediation. The company is also participating in nuclear non-proliferation efforts by working to dispose of weapon-grade plutonium that is no longer required for defense purposes.

AREVA- first through AREVA Inc. and now through AREVA Federal Services LLC-. has been a partner in the Project Hanford Management Contract (PHMC) since 1996. At that time, two subsidiaries, NUMATEC Hanford Corporation and COGEMA Engineering Corporation, were created to contribute to the Hanford site cleanup programs for the U.S. Department of Energy. COGEMA Engineering merged with its parent company under the name of AREVA NC Inc. in July 2005. In 2007 AREVA Inc. consolidated its federal activities, including those of AREVA NC Inc. and AREVA NP Inc. and their subsidiairies, under AREVA federal Services LLC.

Converting weapons to energy:
In 1998, AREVA NC Inc. became a member of Shaw AREVA MOX Services, LLC (called at that time Duke COGEMA Stone & Webster or DCS) to answer the Department of Energy’s need to safely dispose of its surplus weapon-grade plutonium.
