AREVA: A new era for enrichment services
Fueling U.S. energy security
| America’s clean-air nuclear power plants need a steady, reliable source of uranium enrichment services. To meet this need, AREVA, working through AREVA NC Inc., proposes to build and operate a new uranium enrichment facility in the United States. We will use our experience and expertise to provide domestically produced services for America’s nuclear power industry. | AREVA currently markets enrichment services provided by the Georges Besse gaseous diffusion plant in France. The plant safely and effectively meets 25 percent of the world’s enrichment needs, producing a very high-quality enriched product with uranium 235 content of up to 5 percent. Some 50 utilities – in the United States, Europe and Asia – rely on enrichment services from the Georges Besse facility, which has a nominal capacity of 10.8 million separative work units (SWU). |
