As the world’s leading manufacturer of emissions-free nuclear power plants, AREVA is committed to environmental protection, a fundamental company value.
An Environmentally Responsible Facility
If constructed, AREVA’s U.S. uranium enrichment plant will use 50 percent less electricity than currently operating uranium enrichment facilities using gaseous diffusion technology. Further, the plant will not require cooling water, unlike other facilities using older technology.
Even though uranium enrichment facilities have minimal radiological impacts, AREVA keeps a sharp focus on safety and security at all of its facilities.
A Commitment to Constant Improvement
AREVA’s proposed American uranium enrichment facility draws on the group’s long-term experience building and operating the Georges Besse uranium enrichment facility in France. Georges Besse provides 25 percent of the uranium enrichment services required in the world and has done so with an excellent environmental record.
Georges Besse’s policy seeks continuously to reduce the plant’s effect on the environment, achieving the lowest possible level of impact, even below that required by regulations. To achieve this goal, AREVA performs extensive tests, which have revealed constant improvement in the facility’s effects on the air, soil and water, as well as a reduction in energy consumption. |
