Bethesda, MD., February 6, 2006 - AREVA announced today the award of a major
contract through its subsidiary Transnuclear, Inc. to supply casks for the interim dry storage of
used nuclear fuel. The contract, awarded by Florida Power & Light (FPL), is for an initial order
of 30 casks.
Under the terms of contract, Transnuclear will supply NUHOMS 32PTH canisters and
HSM-H storage modules to three nuclear power plants - St. Lucie 1 & 2, Turkey Point 3 & 4,
and Seabrook - starting in early 2007. The AREVA subsidiary will provide engineering
services, as well as all transfer equipment used for performing fuel-loading operations, to
support the commissioning of a new Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) at
each of the three sites.
"We are continuing the trend we started last year - Transnuclear's 40th anniversary
year - by winning another significant contract" said Transnuclear Inc. CEO Alan Hanson.
"This award further solidifies our leadership position as a provider of nuclear fuel cycle
solutions to U.S. utilities and the Department of Energy."
The NUHOMS system has been selected by every utility awarding a dry
storage contract in the past three years. With the FPL contract, Transnuclear will be serving
40 out of the 67 operating commercial reactors that have current or near-term need for dry
storage.
